Baltimore resident Tavion Thomas, a convicted felon, has been sentenced to 33 months in prison after he was caught with a pair of loaded weapons by police investigating a separate incident, federal authorities announced.
According to his guilty plea, on Sept. 10, 2022, officers in Baltimore were advised that Thomas was wanted in the city for a violent crime, and they tracked him to the 3200 block of Belair Road, where he was with a group of people.
Prosecutors say that he was arrested on the warrant and his backpack was searched, leading to the recovery of:
- Loaded 9mm pistol loaded with a round in the chamber and a magazine with 14 rounds;
- A magazine loaded with 10 9mm rounds;
- Eight mason jars containing 1,696 grams of marijuana;
- Four plastic bags containing 28 grams of marijuana;
- Five plastic containers with 100 grams of marijuana;
- Metal grinder with marijuana residue.
He also had a loaded 9mm pistol in his waistband. As a convicted felon, Thomas was barred from possession guns or ammo.
It was later determined that the 9mm pistols that he was busted with were reported stolen out of Bel Air and Atlanta.
In addition to his prison term, Thomas was also ordered to serve three years of probation following his release.
"Removing from the community—by any legal means necessary—those most likely to commit gun violence, guides the accountability arm of our work,” US Attorney Erek Barron said.
“As a convicted violent offender, Thomas knew that he was not allowed to have a gun—if you are caught illegally carrying a gun, you will be held accountable.”
